Happy Solstice: today, 21 June 2014 at 10:51 UT the Sun reaches its highest excursion relative to the celestial equator on the celestial sphere at the Tropic of Cancer. Then it begins its journey from the Northern Hemisphere back down towards the Southern Hemisphere from the tropic of Cancer to the Tropic of Capricorn.

Sol – Stice means the SUN STANDS STILL. There is a magic turn: we glide down toward the cycle of next 6 months to embrace an energetic shift that corresponds to the fact that the axis of the Earth ( Northern Hemisphere) from today and for the next 6 months is pointing away from the Sun.
At this point of year you should have filled your cup with your own personal nectar , generated between Winter Solstice and Summer Solstice, and now is time to enjoy, celebrate the full-ness of life whatever that means for you, give up worrying, and bask in the warmth and life-giving rays of Sun.
The Sun cosmologically reconnects us with the primary cause of creation ,the Golden Womb Hiranyagarbha. Referred to as the “world soul” Hiranyagarbha is the Golden Embryo, Golden Egg, or Golden Womb identified in the Rig Veda (X.121) as the cause of the universe. It it is also the “womb” of manifest reality. When the cosmic egg separates into two hemispheres at the beginning of the world, its upper portion forms the sky and its yolk becomes the Sun.
Summer Solstice represents the peak of light and therefore Enlightenment. At a basic level when there is more light available there is an ease in discerning what is useful and positive from what is not. A natural abundance of light has also healing properties ( Vit D production) and enhances our mood.
As today we are collectively turning and shifting, stand still like the Sun for a moment and look back at past six months in appreciation of whatever you have cultivated and has emerged in your personal life.
The next couple of months ahead should bring a sense of celebration, satisfaction, fulfilment, ease and joy. Holi-days are meant for us to recharge and restore a balance between do-ing and be-ing!
As yogic practice chant the Gayatri Mantra as sunrise, noon and sunset today ( and everyday if you can). If you want to expand your knowledge read from the Suryashaktam : Stotra on Suryadeva , Hymn to the Sun.
